Miles Davis Quintet – Cookin’ with the Miles Davis Quintet

Vinyl rip in 24-bit / 96kHZ [and redbook] FLAC + artwork
724 MB / 194 MB | magnet + mega | Jazz
Analogue Productions APRJ 7094 (2013) [originally released as Prestige 7094]
33RPM, 200 gram, Deep Groove, QRP Pressing, Mastered by Kevin Gray

This is the lastest pressing from Acoustic Sounds and their Prestige Mono Series.

The LP is well documented, not much I can add here. I do note that at least some of the studio chatter has been restored on this pressing. Also, Tune Up and When Lights Are Low are presented as separate tracks, different from the 45 RPM pressing. And of course, the back cover as always lists "Just Squeeze Me" instead of "When Lights Are Low".

I did same as Garybx, recorded this mono LP on my stereo rig and presented it here as-is, no folding,  or other audio origami was performed.

tracks:
A1 My Funny Valentine Written-By – Rodgers* 6:06
A2 Blues By Five Written-By – Davis* 10:37
B1 Airegin Written-By – Rollins* 4:29
B2 Tune Up Written-By – Davis* 5:44
B3 When Lights Are Low Written-By – Carter* 7:35

credits:
Miles Davis – trumpet, bandleader
John Coltrane – tenor saxophone
Red Garland – piano
Paul Chambers – double bass
Philly Joe Jones – drums

Ah, you had to mention the studio chatter. Damn. must-download. We're sick. And we love it.

Thanks

Incredible studio sessions for this series of Miles LPs… and a reissue series of quality to match. Thank you!

thank you for this - confused as to how this differs from garybx's rip. Was his mono also?

Mine is the third time Acoustic Sounds has done this title in a vinyl format, all mono, but mine is not a box set.

The first was a 33 RPM set (nobody has ripped that here) with studio chatter, mastered by Stan Ricker.

The second is the set Garybx did from 2009, 4LP, 45 RPM, mastered by Hoffman and Gray, and the studio chatter was left off.

The new title I have is not being released as a box set. It is 200 gram, 33 RPM, and mastered by Kevin Gray in 2013. The studio chatter seems to be restored like the first time.

Right now only 3 of the 5 MDQ titles are slated to be done in this series, but if history is any indicator, there will be a phase 2 that includes the other two as well, but still, not in box set format like the two sets before.

I have emailed a few times recently with Kevin Gray and he is being coy about whether they are all going to come out, but letting on that this probably will happen.

Just saw your matrix notes above - if Kevin is now putting a KEVIN GRAY stamp in the deadwax, this is new. Never seen it before.
