Fly Me Courageous is the fourth studio album by the Hard Rock/Southern Rock band Drivin' N' Cryin', released on January 8, 1991 by Island Records. The album is the band's most commercially successful release, in part due to the title track striking a patriotic chord with the United States during the start of the Persian Gulf War.

After an extensive producer search, the band settles on the legendary Andy Johns, widely beloved for his work with Television, Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones and secretly beloved by a faction in the band for his work with Rod Stewart and Cinderella. Ten days before the band was scheduled to begin recording in Memphis, Johns called with terrible news: he was incredibly ill and his doctor forbade him to travel from Los Angeles. Fortunately for Andy, he was able to recuperate that summer by lying on a sofa in the control room during the recording of Van Halen’s For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. Van Halen was so inspired by Andy’s recovery that they awarded him producer credit on the album.

Scrambling now, drivin’ n’ cryin’ had a stroke of luck when they hired the not-quite-as-famous-but-ever-more-reliable Geoff Workman (who had engineered Queen and The Cars for Roy Thomas Baker and later produced Ian McLagan and Journey) to produce Fly Me Courageous. After a summer-long recording session in Memphis, Drivin N Cryin agreed to capitalize its name and drop those damn apostrophes; the stage was set for a huge year to follow.

Oh yeahhhhhhhhhhh...I remember these guys, I'm pretty sure I've never heard this entire album though, so this should be fun. I liked their sound back then I know that much.

Thanks 86ed.

Kinda makes me start wondering about the Gin Blossoms and bands like that from around the same time and whether or not they had vinyl releases. Not because of the sound but because of the time period.

Thank you 86ed. It's nice to see some hometown heroes show up here. This record was always a bit rawk for my taste, but I'm going to give a new listen. I have always really liked Kevn Kinney's singing voice and songwriting, his first solo record probably being my favorite thing he's done.

Nice post 86ed, remember this well. They even made it on letterman with this hit. Singer still performs and are very fan friendly. Can't remember the web site but they shoot video of all their gigs and will mail out copies to their fans no problems. I've got a couple shows myself.

I've got a few of Kevn's side excursions too, an under-rated talent in my book. Still active too! Releasing a lot of EPs of late, but all CDs. Glad you liked it!

Think the Gin Blossoms only had their first (Dusted?) on vinyl, not the next 2 more famous LPs.

Yea, I think you are right,I had a look on discogs after I posted that and only saw a vinyl version for Dusted or w/e. That's too bad.
